FRANK GARCIA was born and raised in New York City. After studying fabrics at The Textile Institute Lower Manhattan in the early 1950's he became the director of display advertising for a major New York shoe manufacturer while freelancing in theatrical costume design and construction. In 1961, Mr. Louis invited him to collaborate on the major Nikolais work "Totem", a collaboration that began the 35-year history of cooperation between Mr. Garcia and the two choreographers.

The first Louis ballet for which he created costumes was "Calligraph for Martyrs", first performed at the Henry Street Playhouse in 1961. Since that time, Louis and Garcia have worked together on over forty productions, including "Hoopla" and "Scherezade". Mr. Garcia has done costuming for Hanya Holm, The Jose Limon Dance Company, Rudolf Nureyev, Royal Danish Ballet, Batsheva Company, The Dallas Ballet and The Cleveland Ballet. Mr. Garcia passed away in 2002.
